LEEDS UNITED BEATEN AT BRAMALL LANE
Visiting Bramall Lane , the Leeds United team was decisively beaten by the Sheffield United Reserves. The Sheffielders
during the early part of the game made a series of strong attacks which only the good work of Rounds in the visitor's goal prevented taking
effect. However, after 35 minutes play he failed to stop a splendid shot by Brayshaw, who thus opened the scoring for the Sheffielders. By
this goal the home team lead at half-time. In the first five minutes of the second half Sheffield scored two goals, Rawson putting the finishing
touch to a smart bout of passing in the first instance, and then Brayshaw beating Rounds with a hard drive. The Leeds forwards could make
no headway, and their defenders were kept busy. Jeffries ran through and shot the fourth goal for the home club

Match Report: Sheffield Daily Telegraph: 15th December 1919:
LEEDS UNITED OUTPLAYED AT BRAMALL LANE
Leeds United played their first away gane in the Midland League at Bramall Lane on Saturday and met with a 4-0 defeat, a reverse that
might easily have been far heavier. Almost throughout they were on the defensive, and on the few occasions that they raided the home
quarters there was very little danger attached to the movements. The forward line was sadly out of gear. Mason and Ellson, formerly of Frickley
Colliery made up the right wing, and held forth promise, but, generally speaking, Ellson was the only sound man of the line. The fast work work
of the Sheffield attack served to show the strength of the Leeds rear defenders, the hero Rounds, the ex-Barnsley goalkeeper, Dodsworth and
"Newman" (later identified as Tate) performed in splendid fashion. The Sheffield backs and goalkeeper were never really tested, so well did
the halves hold the opposing forwards in check. The Reseves attack was fast and full of life, and Alvery attractedmuch attention in the opening
half, but taking the game altogether, a small and slimly built youth named Jeffries, the outside left, was the pick of the line and his individual goal,
the best of the game.
